How fammtree Compares

We built fammtree because traditional family tree tools are designed for genealogists — not for families who just want a simple, private way to visualize their relatives.

Choose the Right Tool for Your Goal

Research ancestors back 200+ years

Ancestry, MyHeritage, or FamilySearch are better choices. They have historical records, DNA matching, and deep research tools. But be prepared for a learning curve and ongoing costs.

Build a simple tree of your living family

That's what fammtree is for. No research, no DNA, no complexity. Just add the people you know and share or print.

Contribute to a global family tree

WikiTree or FamilySearch's collaborative trees let you work with others worldwide. Your data becomes part of a larger, public tree.

Keep your family data completely private

fammtree is your only choice. Data stays on your device. We never see it.

We Hear This a Lot

"I just wanted to show my family how we're all connected. I don't need to know what my great-great-grandfather did in 1847."

fammtree solution: Add the people you know. Skip the genealogy research entirely.

"I signed up for a 'free trial' and got charged $25 when I forgot to cancel. Then another $25 cancellation fee."

fammtree solution: No trials, no tricks. Free means free. Paid means one payment, forever.

"Why does every family tree app want my DNA? I just want to make a tree."

fammtree solution: We don't do DNA. Ever. Just names, dates, and relationships.

"I spent an hour trying to figure out how to add my grandmother. The interface is so complicated."

fammtree solution: Click "Add Parent." That's it.

Privacy That's Actually Private

The genealogy industry has a breach problem:

  • MyHeritage (2018): 92.3 million users' emails and passwords exposed

  • Ancestry/RootsWeb (2015-2017): ~300k users, plain text passwords, discovered 2 years late

  • 23andMe (2023): 6.9 million users' ancestry data stolen via DNA Relatives feature

We take a different approach: we never receive your data in the first place.

Your family tree is stored in your browser, on your device. No account means no database. No database means nothing to breach.

Common Questions About Privacy

What about data breaches?

Since your data never leaves your device, there's nothing for hackers to steal from our servers. We can't be breached because we don't store your family information.

What if I use collaboration features?

If you opt in to sharing features, your data is encrypted and shared only with people you explicitly invite. Even then, you control who has access — and you can revoke it anytime.

Can law enforcement access my data?

We can't hand over data we don't have. Unlike Ancestry, which responds to valid legal requests for user data, fammtree has nothing to share. Your device, your data, your control.
